Social Recreation Supervisor

Position Title:  Social Recreation Supervisor
Location:  Thrive Housing and Support, delivering programs across multiple sites

Position Summary
Thrive Housing and Support is excited to introduce a new Social Recreation Worker position. This role has been created to enhance recreational and social opportunities for Thrive’s clients. Activities will support clients living with physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, HIV, and high-risk seniors.
 
The regular hours for this position are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some flexibility required for special programming. While the primary focus is on Social Recreation, the role also includes some administrative responsibilities. This is an exciting and dynamic opportunity to help shape programming from the ground up.
 
Reporting to the Director of Client Services, the Social Recreation Worker will take the lead on group activities, community outings, and one-on-one client sessions. They will also manage Thrive’s website and social media, assist with event planning, help build community partnerships, and provide support with administrative tasks.
 
Key Responsibilities
Program Development and Delivery
  • Conduct regular checks of the building and grounds to identify safety hazards, maintenance needs, or cleanliness concerns.
  • Promptly report maintenance or safety issues to the manager
  • Handle cleaning products safely and follow Thrive’s health and safety protocols.
  • Follow all organizational policies with an emphasis on equity, dignity, and tenant privacy.
 
Administration and Front Desk Coverage
  • Greet tenants respectfully and respond to questions in a helpful manner when appropriate.
  • Support a welcoming and inclusive environment for all tenants, including those with diverse identities and experiences.
  • Communicate tenant concerns to the appropriate Thrive staff member.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and respect the lived experiences of tenants.
Communications and Social Media
  • Manage and regularly update Thrive’s website and social media platforms to promote events and activities.
  • Collaborate with or lead the Events Committee if continued, organizing community and agency events.
Community Development and Advocacy
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners to expand recreational opportunities.
 
Qualifications
  • Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field required or a relevant combination of skills, education and experience in social recreation programming.
 
Assets
  • Experience delivering recreational programs to people with disabilities, seniors, or other vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and inclusive programming practices.
 
Compensation:
 
Annual $48,410 - $55,965
Hourly $24.83 - $28.70
 
Criminal Reference Check:

  • Acceptable criminal reference check (Vulnerable Sector Check)
 
Vehicle:

  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
